Plant & Garden Suppliers

I have decided to add this section since one of the most often inquiries that I get asked is where certain plants may be found. Whenever you experiment with anything new, it is essential to have high-quality plant material and sound counsel. For instance, dried cyclamen corms are widely available for purchase in the United Kingdom and the United States. The majority of these corms originate in the Netherlands. Most of the time, they do not mature. As a result, individuals are dissatisfied, they give up trying, and the genus acquires the reputation of being “difficult.”

Societies, Groups and Information sources

Plant Sources (UK)

This will be a very small list of the individuals who have consistently supplied high-quality plants to me over the past decade. I don’t get anything back from any of them, nor would I want to. They are here because I like them.

Getting good plant material and good advice is really important when you try something new. For example in the UK and the US, there are a lot of dried Cyclamen corms for sale, coming mainly from Holland. Often they don’t grow. So people are disappointed, give up, and the genus gets the reputation for being “difficult”.

Plant Sources (International)

Some of the vendors that I am aware of that can offer export services are included on this list. I have also included a number of additional providers, most of which are located in the United States. Because it is obvious that I have not done business with these individuals, I am unable to provide the same kind of personal endorsement that I have given to the UK suppliers. Please get in touch with me if you have any difficulties with these vendors.

  • David Fischer “I have been selling species cyclamen plants for six years now, almost entirely by mail order, in the US only. I issue a new price list in late December which contains 30 or more species, varieties, and forms. This is a very small one-person operation, so plants are generally available in limited quantities and the rarer items sell out quite quickly. Many of the cyclamen are not available elsewhere in the US, to the best of my knowledge. Anyone wanting a price list should send $1 (three years of lists) to David Fischer, PO Box 96 Wiscasset, ME 04578
  • Roger Barlow, Beaver Creek Greenhouses “We grow a variety of Cyclamen plus alpines & ship our plants to the US & Canada. We offer seed as well & will ship seed anywhere. No paper catalogs anymore as all business is done via email or over the web now.” website: www.rockgardenplants.com
  • Diana Nicholls “We ship internationally as well as US.” Nicholls Gardens MailOrder Plant Nursery 4724 Angus Drive, Gainesville, Va 20155-1217″ HTTP://www.nichollsgardens.com
  • John Lonsdale “I list plants every year and will probably list seed next year also.
