Acacia Delbata know as the Mimosa Tree or Silver Wattle

Acacia Delbata know as the Mimosa Tree or Silver Wattle, beautiful flowers, commonly grown in the UK in areas protected from severe frost.

ACACIA DEALBATA, or the mimosa tree, (grows on the border between subtropical and temperate zone, native to southern Australia & Tasmania), is a fast growing evergreen commonly found in the UK.

Check out the native range at wikipedia

This tree is characterized by its small size and feather-like blue-green foliage. The leaf shape and look being one of the main reasons we love using them in designs. They add a unique feel and texture.

Acacia or Mimosa Flowers give a unique texture to your garden…

In early springtime, this tree blooms with fragrant yellow flowers. Fragrance some think is like sweet maripane. You may think they are rare in your area until you start to notice them all over the place once they flower. They thrive in coastal areas, where frost is more limited.

It does best grown in full sun and soil that is well drained. Generally it will grow to about 15-25ft tall. They will grow extremely vigorously when young and starting out, but the height will settle. Best to prune them after they have flowered, little and often is better than heavily pruning them in the winter months.

Acacia leaves add another beautiful texture used in many garden designs…

Unfortunately this species of plant isn’t particularly frost hardy unless grown in large urban centers or coastal regions – if a cold winter damages them they may re shoot from the base, which grants them a chance at another life!

I have read that to prevent spreading disease between plants you can dip your tools is a weak solution of bleach to sterilise them.

Like most newly planted trees, keep them well watered while they get established.
